WP2

Front-End Engineering Design for Artificial Reef Structure Integrated in the Floating Structure

WP2 delivers a general design for the ARS to be incorporated into the floating structure including a “site-specific” design which will be demonstrated through the three study sites of INF4INiTY.

WP2 Front-End Engineering Design for Artificial Reef Structure Integrated in the Floating Structure

WP2 develops the general and site-specific designs of the Artificial Reef Structure (ARS) to be integrated into floating offshore wind platforms across the three INF4INiTY case study sites. The work package ensures that the designs are both structurally sound and ecologically beneficial, supporting near-surface species and enhancing local biodiversity.

The work begins with landscaping and ecological assessment of floating ARSs, identifying target species, analysing habitat requirements, and updating the Nature-Inclusive Design catalogue from WP1 with floating-specific applications. Based on this, WP2 produces general designs that balance ecological goals with structural and hydrodynamic requirements, covering ARS shapes, surfaces, buoyancy, and integration into the floating platform under expected wind and wave conditions.

Finally, site-specific designs tailor the ARSs to the local ecosystem and environmental conditions of each case study site. WP2 also evaluates low-cost fabrication, sustainable materials, and transport & installation strategies, ensuring feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and environmental sustainability for real-world deployment.
