A couple of weeks ago, members of the INF4INiTY met in Istanbul, Turkey, for the project’s Second General Assembly, and to complete a scour and scour protection course.
From June 24th-25th, project partner BM SUMER hosted the consortium and organised, along with project partner NIRAS, the scour protection course. Mutlu Sumer, Özgür Kirca (BM SUMER), and Thor Peterson (NIRAS) delivered a series of informative lectures on the fundamentals of scour and the underlying morphodynamic processes, together with insightful information on scour projection with examples from relevant industry projects.
The scour course will be greatly instrumental to support the work carried out within the INF4INiTY project. Particularly, in relation to Work Package 3 on the Geotechnical and morphodynamic Analysis, which will develop the geotechnical and morphodynamic design parameters and performance metrics for the design of INF4INiTY innovations, this will be extremely relevant to the nature inclusive design (NID) of our gravity anchor and associated scour protection system. Such work will be based both on experimental and numerical work. The course was greatly beneficial to ensure project partners are knowledgeable about the processes involved, and to make sure project work continues to develop in coordination and according to the same standard principles.
In the days following the scour protection course, the entire consortium convened for INF4INiTY’s Second General Assembly meeting, where project coordinator Dr. Christian Windt (TU Braunschweig) updated partners on the progress of the project so far. Work package leads also had the chance to introduce current progress during this meeting. The presentation triggered insightful and important discussions on the technical details of the project, as well as providing an excellent opportunity for the consortium members to meet in person for the second time and share ideas on the overall direction of the project.
We can safely say that the INF4INiTY project is in full swing and well on track for the next 3.5 years to come.
We would like to extend our thanks again to all presenters, attendees, and of course, to our hosts BM SUMER for this milestone event.
